Pixel Pet Art

How are these dog and cat paintings made and by who?

Classic painted artworks are digitally hand painted in detail. Or a digitally altered rough structured portrait is possible too. You can send me your favorite photo's of your pet(s), and I will design you a custom piece of art you will love.

Custom dog and cat art

If you'd like a custom art piece of your pet(s) digitally painted you can choose between only your pet(s) but a family portrait is possible too!

Any wishes you have you can write to me in your email or contact form. Would you like a classic portrait, or a movie scene? Maybe you want a favorite toy in it, or another accessoire you love?

Tell me a bit about his/her character. Also tell me your favorite colors to match your home, so the artwork will blend in your house. During the painting process we will stay in touch, so you will get a custom piece of art you will love.

Rough Structured portraits

Rough structured portraits are mixed media: digitally altered. This means the portrait you send in will first be optimized for a rough filter and then cut out and placed on a white backdrop with the name of your pet.

About Jessica

Who makes your piece of art?

After being a portrait photographer and resident trainer for almost seventeen years in an analogue photography studio (PhotoCorporation) and digital photography studio (Fosica) I started Pixel Pet Art digital painting mid 2018 as a avocation next to my work as a creative marketing assistent. Creating and painting in Photoshop is a big passion next to my big love for classic art, that grew out to the portraits I am creating today. My dog Daantje is a proud ambassador for my digital artworks I do for projects and exhibits. I live in Tilburg, the Netherlands, but since I send the artworks digitally I take commissions from all over the world.

Background of this art

Anthropomorphism (making an object or animal look human) has been greatly discussed and there has been a lot of research done about it. Making something look human gives comfort because it's recognizable. A lot of marketing campaigns are build on this principle (think of the little round chocolate couple with the two m's) and your whole childhood you've seen talking animals in series and movies.
Giving human trades to animals has also been good for the welfare of animals; studies show that people are more willing to help them in situations of distress because of anthropomorphism.

An artwork of your own pet printed on a canvas or on wood is a beautiful wall art. The scenes and costumes of the artworks are inspired by classic paintings, a movie scene, a series or a fairytale. Aren't sure about what kind of artwork you want? Send in your photo's and I will explore all the possibilities with you!

It's my mission to make you a beautiful, timeless painting. With portrait photography as my core, and painting and classic art as my big passions, this provides me with the right base for the digital artworks I am creating for you today. If you have any questions send me an e-mail or fill out a contact form and I will get in touch with you soon! Jessica Vonk.

What is digital art?

Digital art is an artistic work or practice that uses digital technology as part of the creative or presentation process. Since the 1970s, various names have been used to describe the process, including computer art and multi media art. Digital art is itself placed under the larger umbrella term ' new media art'. Artworks are considered digital paintings when created in similar fashion to non-digital paintings, but using software on a computer platform and digitally outputting the resulting image as painted on a canvas.

The first use of the term digital art was in the early 1980s when computer engineers devised a paint program which was used by the pioneering digital artist Harold Cohen This became known as AARON, a robotic machine designed to make large drawings on sheets of paper placed on the floor. Since this early foray into artificial intelligence, Cohen continued to fine-tune the AARON program as technology becomes more sophisticated.
